Protecting looked after children on the internet
In 2002 the Council’s Learning with Care Project was initiated. The project was commissioned so that looked after children could have access to a PC and the internet The Report would ensure that local authorities would focus on improved outcomes for the educational attainment of children and young people looked after away from home. Prior to this project the children’s only access to PC's was really only through their local schools and libraries. Foster carers were often reluctant to allow the foster children access to their own PC’s as these contained personal and confidential information. The Learning with Care Project provided computers with internet access to all children in foster and residential care.
